Aims

Struggling with the climate change is among the five main topics the EU 2020 Strategy; which is one of EU’s smart sustainable and comprehensive title.
The Paris Agreement signed by the UN countries caused the update in EU targets.European Commission
developed the EU Cohesion Strategy that aims to strengthen resistance to the effects of climate change and called to hold the global warming below 1.5 degrees in EU countries. With this call, many measures in our partner countries and the cities we live in and also our schools are not insensitive to this. Each partner school has been doing many activites and works in their own schools also accirdingly with the school strategic plan with the mission of “educating young people who are sensitive towards the environment’.Our project matches with both EU and our country’s in addition to our school ‘s goals.
The school strike for the climate started by 16-year-old Greta Thunberg saying “You are stealing our future” worldwide turned into a mass movement, 163 countries went on a climate strike on September 20, in 2019. And young people and children weren’t silent towards the ecological destruction and millions of people fell into the streets. After this event, as the e-twinning project partners, we wanted to see the level of awareness of our students about the change of climate and whether there was a solution proposal by preparing a survey and we got short openended answers. In the survey applied to 943 students in partner schools, we asked some questions such as:
How much is your footprint? What are you doing to lower this rate?
How are you affected by climate change?
Does it affect your health?
Are you, your family, your friends, your school and the city you live in sensitive to the environment? Are you aware of climate change and
what are you doing to prevent it?
What do you know about the methods of combating climate change?
What are the major factors affecting the environment in your country?
What kind of technologies are used to combat climate change in your country?
What is climate justice?
Can technology help tackle climate change? How?
What would happen if you developed a technology that tackles climate change?
When the results are examined by all partners, 73% of our students are environmentally conscious and
concerned about the climate change; only 27% of them are concerned about the technical concepts and things to do. It is seen that 15% of the students know their country’s responsibilities and technologies, 22% are technologically creative to climate change. For this reason, we needed to come face to face as partners and inspired by our e-twinning project, we decided to write the Erasmus + KA229 project.
The objectives of our project can be caunted as:
Raising awareness of the urgency and seriousness of climate change,
Developing methods of combating and climate change by means of technology
increasing the students’ social responsibilities and doing non-governmental studies.
